Class A'Peels® This European company had developed an extremely precision method to die-cut and emboss gold, silver, and other colorful foil on top of a pressure-sensitive plastic backing. The outcome produced the most beautiful press-on stickers that would enhance anything they were applied to. Unbelievably, the European manufacturing company had mailed samples to 200 different companies in the U.S. to find a distributor, yet we were the company that got the marketing rights to this wonderful product. |
We
quickly went to work giving the product a name: We chose "Class A'Peels" and registered
the trademark. We determined the sheet size, established a suggested retail price,
designed the packaging, and printed sales tools. We then purchased machinery and
set up for slitting, stripping and packaging in our plant. After several months
of investing our time and money (over $100,000) in launching this product, we
discovered that the process for manufacturing this product was already tightly
patented in the U.S. We located the inventor, who luckily for us, owned a company
very near us. We met with the inventor/patent holder, and within a few weeks we
owned the license to the exclusive U.S. marketing rights to this beautiful product
in all the related markets to our business. From that point we developed display
racks of all sizes, along with full story boards to show how the product could
be used. We then displayed in international and regional trade shows to promote
Class A'Peels. We even paid for T.V. time on a national crafts channel to demonstrate
the product's superiority as well as its universal appeal. No one heavily involved
in the photo memories or scrap booking craze can believe the beautiful creations
easily made with Class A'Peels. These stickers are so sturdy they can even be
placed in the dishwasher, the freezer, or the microwave oven and not be damaged.
In October 1999 we sold all our craft related product lines (several million dollars in annual sales and over one thousand SKU's) to a larger company in the same market. Included in the sale was this product line.
We had over 200 independent sales representatives calling on retailers the USA alone. We had lots of fun with this product and the company who purchased (sub-licensed) this product line are adding new beautiful designs and increasing the sales even further.
